Get your tails on the trail. This area is known for its outdoor recreation. There are miles of hiking trails that offer amazing vistas, plentiful wildlife and spectacular waterfalls. Float

Set off on a river adventure with Kittatinny Canoes. The outfitter welcomes well-behaved dogs for river trips. Pets must be leashed and comfortable riding in a shuttle bus or van to and from the launch site. Dogs must also wear a life vest while on the river in a canoe, kayak or raft. Kittatinny also asks for dogs’ nails to be trimmed before taking a rafting trip.

Play

Unleash the fun at Riverside Dog Park in Hawley. Take a short ten-minute walk to the fenced-in dog park beside the Lackawaxen River. The grassy space offers a separate small dog area for pups under 20 pounds. Let your dog enjoy the open space to roam as well as various ramps and activities for both mental and physical exercise. There are several benches around the park for pet parents to relax and observe.

Picnic

Dine al fresco. Although dining options with your dog may be limited, there are countless opportunities to picnic in the Pocono Mountains. Whether you bring a blanket and find a secluded spot or take advantage of one of the area’s picnic groves, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a meal without leaving your furry friend behind. Lap up the frozen treats! Gresham’s Ice Cream Shoppe has an outdoor patio area where pups and their people may enjoy a cool treat. Located across from the Dike at Lake Wallenpaupack, Gresham’s serves Hershey’s hard ice cream, soft-serve and Dole soft-serve, as well as savory snacks like hot dogs and pretzels.

Dine

Bring an appetite. Cocoon Coffeehouse and Bakery offers covered terrace seating so pets may join their owners for breakfast, lunch or a snack. Enjoy fresh roasted Moka Origins Coffee, fruit smoothies, artisanal sandwiches and gourmet pastries. Don’t forget to order a puppuccino or specialty dog treat for your furry friend.

Shop

Browse the selection of shops and services in the Hawley Silk Mill. Located adjacent to Cocoon Coffeehouse and Bakery, the building is pet friendly so visitors may shop with their leashed dogs and check out the range of home décor, fashion, children’s clothing, toys and more.

Listen

Find a grassy spot at one of the area’s many summer outdoor concerts for you and your pup to enjoy the music. Events such as Honesdale’s Concerts in the Park every Monday and Thursday evening provide free outdoor entertainment you can enjoy with your dog. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hawley also offers a free outdoor summer concert series on Saturday evenings and nearby Carbondale hosts live outdoor music in Memorial Park every Wednesday in July. Here at The Settlers Inn you can find a spot in the gardent to enjoy Jazz on the Deck each Wendesday during summer. Lakeside Live at our sister property, Silver Birches, is another option. The grassy lawn is a prime location to listen to the tunes every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.

Take him or her out to the ball game! Whenever the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders play Wednesday home games, canine fans are welcome. Waggin’ Wednesdays at PNC Field in Moosic, about 45-minutes away, lets owners watch the New York Yankees AAA-affiliate with their best four-legged friend and features a $2 Sabrett hot dog special for the occasion.

Taste

Savor the sights and the sips at Sorrenti Family Estate and Winery in Saylorsburg. Well-mannered pets are invited to join their people in the tasting room and on the grounds of the award-winning winery in Saylorsburg. The family-owned winery, distillery and pizzeria has been a staple in the Poconos since 1981.

Sightsee

Take a stroll down memory lane at the Equinunk Historical Society. The Calder House Museum and Joel Hill Sawmill are historic sites that tell the story of Wayne County’s early days from Native American settlement to the rise of farming. Pet owners may bring along their leashed dogs on a self-guided tour of the sites in Equinunk.

All aboard! Climb into a vintage train coach on Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway for a scenic ride from Jim Thorpe into Lehigh Gorge State Park. Well-behaved dogs may join their owners for a leisurely excursion through the mountainous landscape.
